A 55-year-old woman has become Britain’s oldest mother of triplets after undergoing IVF treatment. Glam Sharon Cutts, grandmother of four, gave birth to triplets and gave herself Botox ɪɴᴊᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴs and hair extensions to ensure she looked good after the birth.
Sharon and her boyfriend Stuart Reynolds, who is 15 years younger to her, became parents of sons Mason and Ryan, and daughter Lily.
“I knew there was a possibility of multiple births because the doctor put four embryos in me, for a higher chance of ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇɪᴠɪɴɢ,” Sharon was quoted as saying by The Sun.
Ms Sharon, who has four grown-up children from a previous relationship, said she does not care that the babies are younger than her grandchildren. “It means they’ve got lots of playmates,” she said.
Stuart, who’s childless, wished to start his own family. But Sharon had already begun to undergo ᴍᴇɴᴏᴘᴀᴜsᴇ. The couple’s only option was IVF therapy, which entail an egg being removed from another woman’s ovaries and fertilized with Stuart’s sperm in a laboratory before being implanted ito Sharon.
However, they were soon disappointed as the nine eggs donated by an anonymous donor did not take to Sharon’s womb after two attempts. In the UK the National Health Service (NHS) will provide the process only up to the age of 42, so the couple turned to a private London clinic to undergo a third treatent.
Stuart said: “When they said they were going to put four embryos in I thought: ‘hang on, that sounds like a lot.’ They said the number would make it more likely to work, so we agreed. Incredibly, three embryos sᴜʀᴠɪᴠᴇᴅ.”
Sharon said: “Two weeks after the procedure I took a test at work and I was pregnant. I couldn’t wait to tell Stuart, who was over the moon. We both couldn’t believe our eyes when the scan a few weeks later showed we were having three babies. After the initial sʜᴏᴄᴋ I was delighted.”
She spent 11 weeks on a maternity ward to ensure the babies were delivered safely. At one point, her doctors advised that she consider ᴀʙᴏʀᴛɪɴɢ one of the babies due to the ᴅᴀɴɢᴇʀs of pregnancy at her age. But she refused and the triplets were born by Cᴀᴇsᴀʀᴇᴀɴ section at Nottingham University Hospital. They each weighed between 4lbs and 5lbs.
She also revealed she gave herself Botox ɪɴᴊᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴs and fresh hair extensions in hospital before going into ʟᴀʙᴏᴜʀ.
She insisted: “I’ll keep up the Botox and getting my nails done. I want to look like Barbara Cartland when I’m in my 80s. I’m not going to let myself look like a granny. I’m young at heart, I’ve never felt 55. Up until I conceived I was going weight training and doing body-building. I worked four night shifts a week on the ward and would spend the rest of the time down the gym.”
