Christmas Eve has been marked by tragedy as a woman died after being hit by a police car.
The incident occurred at about 8.10pm Sheil Road, Liverpool. Emergency services rushed to the scene but the pedestrian in her 20s was confirmed deceased. Specially trained officers have informed the woman’s next-of-kin, even though formal identification has not yet been made. Road closures were in place while emergency services attended.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) have been informed and have also attended the scene, reports the Liverpool Echo. Merseyside police said they are appealing for any witnesses, CCTV and dash camera footage which may assist the investigation.

People at the scene speaking to the Echo on Christmas Eve said they saw “a load of police” but did not know what happened. One eyewitness said they saw a woman being hit by a car.
One person said: “It’s horrific. It’s Christmas Eve. Whatever it is is looks bad., It’s heartbreaking.”
