Stefan Schwoch insisted Dries Mertens is a better option for Napoli in big games than Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen has netted 9 Serie A goals for Napoli this season, but none of them came against the big boys.
In addition, the 23-year-old has not scored a goal at Diego Maradona Stadium since October.
With Napoli taking on Udinese this weekend at home, the former Napoli’s hitman spoke on who should lead the attack between Osimhen and Mertens.
“Logically the idea is to start again with Osimhen, but there is the question of Mertens and the club has to make some choices.
“However, I would take another point of value, which is the number of goals they have scored at home and when it matters most”
“They must have at least a pair of 20- forwards 10 goals each.” He said on Radio Marte during the ‘Marte Sport Live’ broadcast.
Schwoch also expressed his concern about Osimhen’s lack of goals at home and against the big side.
“Some teams when they come to Naples allow very little space and it is difficult to find outlets. Last year, however, Napoli had the outsiders who scored many goals, but this year they are few. Osimhen has never scored with the big names, he struggles when there are games of a certain level. He hasn’t scored at home since October and maybe this problem is accentuated.
He admitted that Osimhen and Mertens can play together, but believes the Belgian is a better choice than Osimhen against teams who defended deeply.
“Mertens and Osimhen together? It can be done, the numbers are on Mertens’ side, a player like him cannot be argued. When you play at home maybe he can be more comfortable than Osimhen because he is better in tight spaces”.
