Former Super Eagles boss, Gernot Rohr is disappointed with Super Eagles lackluster finish to the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying race.
Recalled the Super Eagles fell to the Black Stars of Ghana in the two legged world cup playoff and subsequently missed the ticket for the first time in 16 years.
In a chat with www.brila.net, Rohr led the three time African Champions to the final phase of the qualifiers, before he was shown the exit door by the Nigeria Football Federation said, he’s disappointed with the outcome of the result.
The Franco-German stated that the Super Eagles have superior squad that the Black Stars, but paid the price for not working as a team.
“Oh yes there was a big disappointment after this match yesterday(on Tuesday).
“We had all the hope that Nigeria would qualify and I believe that the better players are in Nigeria not in Ghana. But sometimes the collective work of a team can be stronger than the individual strength of the other team.” He told www.brila.net.
Rohr added that, his plans was to lead the team to the quarter final of the World Cup, and give Nigerian football a good image before he was dismissed from his role.
“My target was to go to the World Cup in Qatar and to go at least to the quarter final and also to have a good image of Nigerian football like we had in the last five years.” He concluded.
Rohr was contracted in the year 2016 after the Super Eagles failed to qualify for back to back African Cup of Nations.
The former Gabon boss hit the ground running immediately by qualifying the team for the 2018 fifa World Cup, where they failed to make it out of the Group phase.
He also led the team to a third place finish during 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt and helped the team qualified for the 2021 edition.
However, Rohr was relieved from his duty following home defeat to Central African Republic and a draw against Cape Verde.
