Relegation battle: Iwobi ready to play any position for Everton

Midfielder Alex Iwobi says he is only worried about helping Everton win the battle against relegation and not his position on the pitch.

 

Iwobi has not found him playing in defense recently, despite impressing in his favorite midfield role a few weeks ago

 

He’s played in the wingback in the last two games, he’s likely to continue playing in the position until the end of the season.

 

The Blues star however said his aim is to help the Toffees stay up and not worry about his position on the pitch.

 

“It’s good, anything I can do to help the team. I do get the ball a lot, I get into attacking opportunities as well, I just have to keep on doing what I can do for the team,” he added.

 

“Whether it’s right wing-back, right midfield, in the middle….I just have to keep doing my best. Before I started playing consistently he [Lampard] told me to go and express myself, play how I train.

 

“I’ve been trying to do that and repay the faith. Every time he’s always talking to me to stay confident, and that’s what I’m trying to do on the pitch.”

 

Iwobi also admitted that Seamus Coleman has helped him understand the wing-back role better.

 

He admitted: “Without him, I’d probably be all over the place! He’s always shouting my name and telling me where to be so I do appreciate that.

My Super Eagles invitation is a dream come true — Alhassan

Newly invited Nigeria midfielder Yusuf Alhassan is excited to be included in the Super Eagles squad for the first time in his career.

 

He has been in fine form for Royal Antwerp this season and his form midfield earned him a place in the Salisu Yusuf’s squad for the clash against Mexico and Ecuador.

 

Alhassan who has made 29 appearances for Royal Antwerp in the Belgian Jupiler league this season told his club what the invitation mean to him.

Samuel Kalu shines as Watford ends poor home record

Nigerian winger Samuel Kalu was handed a place in Watford’s starting 11 and was impressive against Everton on Wednesday.

 

It was his first start in the Premier League for the Hornets, since signing for them in January.

 

The winger who has battled injury and poor since his move from Bordeaux had a good game against the Toffees and was among the best players on the pitch.

 

Samuel Kalu a bright spark, combined well with Ken Sema down the left, before firing over after 18 minutes.

 

Kalu’s free-kick in a dangerous position cleared Jordan Pickford’s crossbar and he was applauded by the fan for his influence on the team.

 

The match ended without a goal, but the result was very much appreciated by the crowd as already relegated Watford showed improvement after a defeat to Crystal Palace last weekend.

 

Following the draw, Watford have now picked up their first point at Vicarage Road since a 4-1 victory against Man Utd in November, ending a run of 11 successive home Premier League defeats.

 

They also kept their first home clean sheet in the Premier League since beating Liverpool 3-0 in February 2020, having conceded in 22 consecutive matches at Vicarage Road in the competition before stalemate against Everton.

Okoye on the brink of saving Sparta Rotherham from relegation

Maduka Okoye was in superb form for Sparta Rotherham as they beat PEC Zwolle 2-0 to boost their chances of staying up in the Dutch top-flight league on Wednesday.

 

The Super Eagles goalkeeper stood form and made three key saves to give Sparta Rotherham the advantage in the most crucial match in the fight against relegation.

 

With 33 of 36 games played, Sparta Rotterdam had only two points more than PEC before the game and a win will take them out of the bottom three, whole Zwolle had to get results to avoid relegation.

 

 

Sparta got off to a great start and Adil Auassar gave them the lead in the third minute.

 

Van Crooij then connected with a cross from Younes Namli to make it 2-0 for Sparta Rotherham, after 24 minutes.

 

Okoye kept the scoreline the same as he made three good saves to deny  PEC Zwolle from getting back into the game and relegated them in the process.

 

After the game, Okoye and his teammates celebrate the result with the fans who are delighted to see the team winning the battle against relegation.

 

Sparta Rotherham will travel to Heracles Almelo next and they must avoid defeat in their last two games to stay up.

Enyimba striker Victor Mbaoma is delighted to receive his maiden invitation to the Super Eagles squad.

 

The forward was included in Salisu Yusuf’s 30-man squad for the upcoming test games against Mexico and Ecuador next month.

 

Reacting to his invitation, the striker said:

Super Eagles’ first assistant Coach, Salisu Yusuf has released a list of 30 players for Mexico and Ecuador-friendly games in the US.

 

Yusuf who doubles as the head coach of Kano Pillars opted to include eight Nigerian professional Football League players in the squad.

 

The players include the duo of goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke and striker Victor Mbaoma.

 

Defender Ibrahim Buhari of Plateau United and Rivers United top man Ishaq Rafiu also made the list.

Cyriel Dessers happy to reach 100 career goals

Dessers rescues Feyenoord Again in Four-goal Thriller against PSV

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers is delighted to score his 100th senior career goal in front of passionate Feyenoord fans.

Dessers scored twice to reach the 100 club career goal in Feyenoord’s Dutch Eredivisie clash with rivals PSV Eindoven on Sunday.

The goals rescued a point for Feyenoord against title-chasing PSV in front of their 47,000 fans.

“No better place to score your 100th official goal than in an exploding cockpit,” the striker wrote on Twitter.

Dessers is now Feyenoord’s outright top scorer this season in all competitions, and despite not being the first choice at the beginning of the season.

The 20-goal landmark is also the striker’s best goal return in his career — bettering his the 18 goals he scored in 2019-2020 campaign.
