Osimhen and Napoli’s Scudetto dream shattered by Empoli

Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen is likely to remain at Napoli for next season, Italian tabloid La Gazzetta Dello Sport has suggested.

The striker’s future has dominated the media for the past two months, with Manchester United and Arsenal reportedly leading the chase for his signature.

It is understood that the Partenopei would do a business if they received an offer in the region of €100m for their prize asset, however, the club could have a change of heart, following their Champions League qualification.

With qualification for the next Champions League sealed, Napoli, is expected to pocket at least £40million which could rise to almost £55million if Spalletti ‘s team confirms the current third place in the league.

Osimhen is also keen to play Champions League football next season, and it is unlikely that Manchester United and Arsenal will be in the elite league next season.

This could allow Napoli’s President Aurelio De Laurentiis to withstand the potential pressure from the Premier League Clubs for Victor Osimhen.

De Laurentiis is also expected, to strengthen the squad in the summer and again, challenge for scudetto next season.

West Ham United and Newcastle in battle to sign Tosin Adarabioyo

Newcastle United and West Ham United are targeting Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo, according to Evening Standard.

Adarabioyo played a critical role in Fulham’s promotion to the Premier League and his performances caught the eyes of the Premier League sides.

According to Evening Standard, West Ham, and Newcastle United have sent scouts to watch the player several times, while playing in the Championship this season and they are impressed with what they saw.

Both teams are now ready to go head to head for the players who signed for the Cottagers from Manchester City at the beginning of last season.

However, Fulham’s manager Marcus Silva rates the 24-year-old highly and won’t entertain any bid for the defender.

Fulham wants to make an impact in the Premier League this term and they see Adarabioyo as one of the important players who can keep them in the topflight.

Fulham sealed instant promotion back to the Premier League with a win against Preston last week and needs at least a point from the last two games against Bournemouth and Swansea to clinch the top spot.

NPFL: Rivers United, Plateau United bounce back to winning ways

Rivers United continued their impressive campaign in the Nigeria Professional Football League with another away success on Wednesday.

The League Leaders recorded pipped hosts Katsina United 1-0 at the Mohammed Dikko Stadium in Katsina State, to go four points clear at the summit.

Joseph Onoja grabbed the only goal seven minutes in added time as Stanley Eguma’s team extended their lead over Plateau United to four points.

Rivers United have now scored a 90+th minute goal for the first time this season. It is also their first away from home since Chikere Osita scored a 94th-minute winner against Kwara Utd in Ilorin (Feb 2018).

The Pride of Rivers have now kept five clean sheets away from home this season in the NPFL; joint best with Akwa United and Rangers Int’l FC.

With the result, they remain on top with 49 points, four points ahead of the second-placed Plateau.
